Migliore Remains Breeders Cup Bound

Jockey Richard Migliore is bound for the Oct. 30 Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships despite suffering a scare to his surgically held together arm during an Oct. 28 spill at Belmont Park.

Trainer Steve Assmussen said Migliore still has the mount aboard Bwana Charlie in the Breeders' Cup Sprint (gr. I). "He's still riding," the trainer said Friday morning outside his Lone Star Park barn. "He's flying here today. He's fine, just a little sore."

Breaking from the rail, Bwana Charlie and Migliore are listed at 30-1 on the morning line. Bwana Charlie is owned by Texan Bill Heiligbrodt.
Migliore won the second and third races at Aqueduct, and was in the gate preparing to ride the fourth race when his mount, Pavlina, flipped in the gate. Migliore was put on a stretcher and taken to North Shore University hospital.

Migliore's right arm was badly broken in a July 1999 spill that nearly ended his career. Several surgeries later he resumed riding in January 2000.

Migliore, who never has won a Breeders' Cup race, is also booked on Artie Schiller in the NetJets Breeders' Cup Mile (gr. IT).
