Grade II Winner Teton Forest to Spendthrift

Teton Forest, a 2004 grade II winner for B. Wayne Hughes, has been retired from racing and will enter stud at the owner's Spendthrift Farm near Lexington. The 3-year-old son of Forestry suffered an injury last Friday during a workout preparing for the Oct. 29 Walmac Lone Star Derby (gr. III).

Teton Forest won the mile Jerome Handicap (gr. II) by six lengths at Belmont Park and was just a head behind Fire Slam's winning time of 1:20.94 for seven furlongs in the Riva Ridge Breeders' Cup Stakes (gr. II) in his last two starts. The latter effort was good enough for a 109 Beyer Speed Figure.

Unraced at two, Teton Forest started his career with a 1:21.94 victory at Santa Anita in January. In two other Santa Anita races, he recorded a 106 Beyer in a 6 1/2-furlong win and ran second to Rock Hard Ten. He retired with three wins from eight starts and earnings of $222,000 for trainer Bob Baffert.

Bred by Donald S. and R. Mary Zuckerman, as Tenants by the Entireties, Teton Forest is a half-brother to grade II winner Tomorrows Cat, who as a stallion is represented by four stakes winners this year. His dam, stakes winner Tomorrow's Child (by Al Nasr), is a half-sister to grade II winner Pass the Tab.

Teton Forest will stand for $5,000. The stallion operation at Spendthrift is managed by Bruce Kline. Teton Forest will be co-managed by Stuart Morris of Highclere Farm.
