Sheikh Marwan al Maktoum's Crimplene (by Lion Cavern) solidified her status as Europe's top 3-year-old filly with a convincing 2 1/2-length victory in Friday's Coronation Stakes (Eng-I), the closing-day feature at the Royal Ascot meet in England.
The Irish-bred filly set the pace in the one mile race and drew off unchallenged at the end. Princess Ellen (Tirol) finished second, followed by Bluemamba (Kingmambo) and Zarkiya (Catrail), the co-favorite with the winner. The final time over a good to firm course was 1:41.55.
Crimplene added the Coronation to her list of group victories that also included the Irish One Thousand Guineas (Ire-I) and the German One Thousand Guineas (Ger-II).
