University of Louisville to Sponsor State-of-Industry Forum

The University of Louisville Equine Industry Program will sponsor a state-of-the industry forum Nov. 2 to discuss "Horse Wars Between the States." The forum, which runs from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the college of business, will feature different speakers discussing various economic concerns of the Thoroughbred business and conclude with a panel discussion.

Speakers include: Dr. Richard Vedder, professor of economics at Ohio University, who will provide an overview of industrial competition among states; Dan Kenny, Lexington blood-stock agent, speaks about the equine industry as Kentucky's signature industry; Mark McDermott, executive secretary Pennsylvania Horse Breeders' Association, The Mid-Atlantic region and its horse policy history; Laverne Perry, executive director Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeders' Association, the facts on Louisiana's burgeoning equine industry; Dr. J. Shannon Neiberg, associate professor of equine business at University of Louisville, stallion fees and competition among regional markets; and Bill Casner, chairman and co-founder of WinStar Farm, a Thoroughbred breeders views on Kentucky's status.
