Scrimshaw to Millennium in Kentucky Scrimshaw, a son of Gulch who competed solely in grade I or grade II stakes as a 3-year-old, scored his big win in the Coolmore Lexington Stakes (gr. II) as a 3-year-old at Keeneland, after which he competed in all three classics. He ran third in the Preakness Stakes (gr. I) and was the sole member of his crop other than Funny Cide to run in all three Triple Crown races.Scrimshaw won an allowance race this year at Churchill Downs in his last start and retired with four wins from 13 starts and earnings of $461,842 for owners Robert and Beverly Lewis and trainer D. Wayne Lukas."He is an excellent stallion prospect, an ultra fast 2-year-old with classic ability at three, a grade II winner with 1:08 1/5 speed, a winner every year he raced, and he's absolutely gorgeous," said farm manager William Hardin. "Gulch has shown, with leading sire Thunder Gulch, that he is a sire of sires."Bred by Stan and Ingrid Stefanski, Scrimshaw is out of the winning Sham mare Rogue Girl and traces back in female family to the Newstead Farm foundation mare Legendra. He will be available for showing during the Kentucky November sales.
