KEMI and Race for Education to Hold Texas Hold' Em Tourney

Kentucky Equine Management Internship Program, Inc. (KEMI) and The Race For Education will hold the inaugural Horsemen's Texas Hold'Em Poker Tournament. The $1,000 per seat tournament will be held Nov. 6 at Sal's Italian Chop House in Lexington, Ky., and will accommodate 110 players.
The evening starts at 7:00 with cocktails and hors d'oeuvres. Sponsors of the tournament include Blood-Horse Publications, Equus/Standardbred Station Inc., Television Games Network and Premier Casino Events, Inc.,
Thoroughbred Times and the
Directory of the Turf. The tournament begins at 7:30 p.m. and will run approximately two and one-half hours.
The players include a variety of sports celebrities, such as Racing Hall of Famer Steve Cauthen, Dusty Bonner, quarterback of the 2004 National Indoor Football League Champions the Lexington Horsemen, and former Red Wings' center Shawn Burr.
"Poker tournaments, and Texas Hold'Em tournaments in particular, are so popular right now," said Boyd Browning, Executive Vice President of Fasig-Tipton and Race For Education Board member. "We thought this would be a different but very interesting way to make a lot of money for two great charitable organizations."
Players will comptete for elaborate prizes, including a Harley-Davidson Speedster motorcycle and a John Deere Gator.
A limited number of tickets for spectators will be available at $100 per person.
