Sand Ridge, a multiple stakes winner who earned $708,149, has been retired from racing and will enter stud at Joe and Sharon Kerby's Key Ranch near Salado, Texas.

Sand Ridge was a winner in all eight of his racing years. The 9-year-old son of Known Fact won five stakes and was stakes-placed a dozen times, including the Essex (gr. III) and Count Fleet Sprint (gr. III) Handicaps. He won the Prairie Express at five furlongs in :56.80 and the Iowa Sprint Handicap at six furlongs in 1:08.64.

"He was fast, honest, and sound, and that is hard to find today," said trainer Don Von Hemel.

Sand Ridge, who was produced from the stakes-placed Spend a Buck mare Skybox, retired with 17 wins from 59 starts racing for Bill Peters' Thunderhead Farms. A half-brother to stakes winner Dootsie, Sand Ridge has been acquired by Phil Leckinger and Jerry Hardin, and will stand for $1,500.
