Goldolphin's Ancient World grabbed the lead early with Frankie Dettori and led a British sweep of the Premio Vittorio di Capua (Ity-I) at San Siro on Sunday. The 4-year-old Spinning World gelding, bred in Kentucky by Darley Stud Management LLC, was never threatened while holding off Majestic Desert by 1 1/4 lengths in the one-mile event. Hurricane Alan finished third, another 1 1/2 lengths behind.Martillo scratched, leaving six foes to face the 11-10 favorite Ancient World, who was stepping up into group I competition.Godolphin racing manager Simon Crisford told Racing Post, "He's finished for the season but will be back next year. We've always rated him highly."The 3-year-old filly Majestic Desert, unhurried early and sixth at the head of the straight, quickened effectively to reach second, but Dettori simply pushed on Ancient World a bit to put away the challenger. The final time on good going was 1:37.8.Ancient World was produced by Machiavellian mare Headline.
