Smarty Jones, the gutsy colt whose quest for a Triple Crown was sidetracked by Birdstone in the Belmont Stakes (gr. I), is the subject of a short item in the Oct. 10 issue of
Parade magazine, which is supplement inside many Sunday newspapers.
The item, as part of Walter Scott's "Personality Parade" column, answers a question from a Pennsylvania reader concerning the ankles bruising that led to Smarty Jones' retirement to Three Chimneys Farm near Midway, Ky., and breeding plans for the classic winner.
Quoting an unnamed Three Chimneys spokesman, Scott reports that Smarty Jones is fine and is not being treated for the ankle bruising and that the colt will be bred to 111 mares next year.
