$8-Million Storm Cat Colt to be Broken at Stone Farm
There still is no official word about the ownership of the Storm Cat -- Welcome Surprise colt that brought $8 million at Keeneland's September yearling sale. But new details have emerged about plans for the handsome chestnut, which was purchased by a leading Japanese trainer, Hideyuki Mori, for an undisclosed client.September's most expensive horse ever sold is being boarded at Arthur B. Hancock III's Stone Farm near Paris, Ky. He is scheduled to begin the breaking process next week."He's a very nice colt that has a lot of sense, and he's doing great," Hancock said. "He has a paddock all to himself, and he likes to frolic around in there."In addition to the Storm Cat colt, two other horses purchased by Mori -- a $3.4-million Storm Cat -- Bless colt and a $1.8-million Seeking the Gold -- Angel Fever colt -- were sent to Stone Farm after they were sold at Keeneland. However, those two horses are now in quarantine awaiting shipment to Japan, according to Hancock.Hancock does not know where the Storm Cat colt will go after he is prepared for racing. The Stone Farm owner said he has been told to send all bills for the yearling to Mori.
