Eddington Likely Choice in Big M's Pegasus

(from Meadowlands report)
Willmott Stables' Eddington, third in the Travers (gr. I) in his last start, drew post six for Friday's $300,000 Pegasus Handicap (gr. III) for 3-year-olds on opening night at the Meadowlands.

The Mark Hennig-trained son of Unbridled could be the starting favorite in the field of 10 entered for a wide-open 1 1/8-mile contest.

In the Travers Aug. 28 at Saratoga, Eddington lost by six lengths to Birdstone, who earlier won the Belmont (gr. I).

Richard Migliore, who's been aboard Eddington's last two efforts, has the return call in the Pegasus, which is the seventh race on an 11-race opening night card.

Trainer Todd Pletcher has entered three: Navesink River, Pollard's Vision and Tales of Glory.

The most accomplished of the trio is Pollard's Vision, whose earnings are just shy of $1 million. He exits runner-up performances in the Pennsylvania Derby (gr. II) and the West Virginia Derby (gr. III). Earlier this year, he went wire-to-wire in winning the Illinois Derby (gr. II) before finishing 17th in the Kentucky Derby.

Pollard's Vision was assigned top weight of 122 pounds, four more than Eddington.

A $70,000 bargain purchase from the Keeneland Sale as a 2-year-old, Pollard's Vision is expected to be cross-entered in the $750,000 Hawthorne Gold Cup (gr. II) in Chicago.

Navesink River, who will be piloted by Ramon Dominguez, exits an allowance win at Saratoga, while Tales of Glory, a front-runner, finished second last out in an optional claiming allowance contest, also at the Spa.

Among the other likely betting choices are Swingforthefences, who carries the second highest impost of 120 pounds, from the Richard Violette barn, and Pies Prospect, a Nick Zito trainee.

Swingforthefences, a $300,000 2-year-old purchase, captured the Iowa Derby in July. He comes off a third-place finish in the Pennsylvania Derby.

Pies Prospect captured an overnight stakes at Delaware in June and finished third in the Haskell Invitational (gr. I) at Monmouth, beaten by 3 ΒΌ lengths by Lion Heart.
