Pleasantly Perfect To Stand at Lane's End

Pleasantly Perfect, fifth on the all-time money list and a leading contender for Horse of the Year, will enter stud in 2005 at William S. Farish's Lane's End Farm near Versailles, Ky.

The son of champion Pleasant Colony will defend his title in the Breeders' Cup Classic - Powered by Dodge (gr. I). He beat such stars as Medaglia d'Oro, Congaree, Perfect Drift, Funny Cide, and Volponi in last year running and finished third in Eclipse Award balloting for champion older male.

Owned by Gerald Ford's Diamond A Racing Corp., Pleasantly Perfect ranks atop the current National Thoroughbred Racing Association poll, garnering all but one of the 17 first-place votes. From four starts this year, he has won the Pacific Classic Stakes (gr. I), Emirates Airlines Dubai World Cup (UAE-I), and San Antonio Handicap (gr. II) and run second in the San Diego Handicap (gr. II).

"We're thrilled to get him," Farish said. "He's an outstanding horse. On the telecast after he won the Pacific Classic, they said he's the greatest horse on the planet. We certainly feel that way. Mr. Ford will stay in for a half-interest in his breeding career. He certainly believes in him."

Bred in Kentucky by Robin Scully's Clovelly Farms, Pleasantly Perfect is out of multiple stakes producer Regal State (by Affirmed), winner of the Prix Morny (Fr-I) and second in two French group I events.

Trained by Richard Mandella, Pleasantly Perfect has earned $7,349,880. He captured the last two runnings of the Goodwood Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. II) and was third in last year's San Antonio. Pleasantly Perfect will stand as the property of a syndicate. A stud fee will be announced later.
