New NTRA Commissioner D. G. Van Clief
D.G. Van Clief Jr. was named commissioner of the National Thoroughbred Racing Association by the organization's board of directors during its board meeting at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, Texas Sept. 25.

Van Clief has been the acting commissioner and chief executive officer of the NTRA since the resignation of Tim Smith became effective Sept. 1.

During its meeting, the NTRA board also established a committee to help develop a profile for its next chief executive officer.

An NTRA statement said Van Clief's appointment was "a vote of confidence in the current leadership team until such time as an executive search is completed."
