The Deputy's First Winner

The night the Cincinnati Reds beat the host Atlanta Braves 11-8, the colt Cincinnati Red won a maiden race Sept. 22 at Turfway Park to become the first winner for his sire, grade I winner The Deputy. Bred by Gregory F. Begley and The Deputy Partnership, Cincinnati Red scored at six furlongs in 1:11.71 for owner Sam Rogers.

Winner of the 2000 Santa Anita Derby (gr. I), The Deputy is owned by a partnership and stands at Margaux Farm near Midway, Ky. His 2004 fee was $5,000.
