Dixie Union to Stud at Diamond A Farms

Dixie Union, who was retired due to a minor tendon injury following his victory in the Malibu Stakes (gr. I), will stand at stud at Gerald Ford's Diamond A Farms near Versailles, Ky. Diamond A raced the colt in partnership with his breeder, Herman Sarkowsky. Dixie Union will stand for a $30,000 live foal fee as the property of a syndicate managed by William S. Farish's Lane's End Farm.

"Dixie Union had brilliant speed and the ability to extend that brilliance to a mile and an eighth against top horses," Farish said. "And, he has the pedigree and outstanding conformation we look for in a stallion prospect.

Trained by Richard Mandella, Dixie Union won seven races, including five graded stakes, in a 12-race career and earned $1,233,190. Besides the victory over high-class sprinter Caller One in the seven-furlong Malibu, Dixie Union won the 1 1/8-mile Haskell Invitational Handicap (gr. I) at Monmouth Park in August, defeating Captain Steve. As a juvenile, he won the Norfolk (gr. II), Best Pal, (gr. III) and Hollywood Juvenile Championship (gr. III) Stakes.

A son of Dixieland Band produced from the grade II-winning Capote mare She's Tops, Dixie Union descends from the female family of Fall Aspen, Timber Country, and Dubai Millenium.
