Last year's boom Australian freshman stallion Mossman (Success Express -- Lichen Lady) has undergone surgery for colic and will not serve another mare at Vinery Stud this season.

There were 150 mares booked on the strength of his successful debut last season.

"He is up & well today. But when you get operated on, that ends the season for you," Vinery general manager Peter Orton confirmed.

Mossman did manage to successfully cover 46 mares this season. A complete recovery is expected. Meanwhile many of the mares booked to Mossman have been transferred to Vinery's other stallion of the same price, More Than Ready   (Southern Halo -- Woodman's Girl). "As a result, he is full now," reported Orton.

Because of his statistical success on debut this year, (winners-to-runners title winner; winners-to-foals title winner, individual winners for a freshman sire; stakes winners-to-foals title winner) Vinery Stud's Australian general manager had considered reverse shuttling Mossman to the Kentucky based farm. Mossman was standing at $16,500 (Australian funds) this year.
