Positive Prize Captures Gottstein Futurity
Positive Prize took command in midstretch and drew off to a length victory in the $100,000 Gottstein Futurity in stakes-record time at Emerald Downs on Sunday.Ridden by Ricky Frazier, Positive Prize defeated the filly Charming Colleen, and covering the 1 1/16 miles in 1:41 2/5, the fastest clocking in the race's 67-year history.Positive Prize, a 2-year-old Kentucky-bred son of Prized stalked front-runner Indian Weaver throughout the race before making his move as the field turned for home. Charming Colleen, looking to become just the sixth filly to win the Washington juvenile championship, made a late charge but could not catch the winner.It was the third consecutive victory and fourth overall in five career starts for Positive Prize, who returned $5.80, $4.40 and $3.20.The Tim McCanna-trained Positive Prize collected $55,000 to increase his earnings to $106,663 for owners Ross McLeod and Charles Ming. Charming Colleen, under Gallyn Mitchell, paid $7 and $4.40, while No Shouting returned $9.60 to show.
