Puglisi Stable's Private Lap notched an easy gate-to-wire victory in the $100,000 Sussex Handicap at Delaware Park Saturday.

The Sussex, originally scheduled for the turf, was switched to the main track after heavy rains buffeted the area. The switch resulted in the field from ten runners to three.

Ridden by Norberto Arroyo, Private Lap cut early fractions of :47 for the half mile and 1:11.80 for the three-quarters before completing the 1 1/16-mile trip over a sloppy track in 1:43.80.

The 5-year-old son of Private Terms won by 11 lengths and returned $2.80 as the favorite.

The Kentucky-bred trained by Lillian Alitieri raised his career record to 12 wins from 31 outings with earnings of $446,000. His Delaware Park main track record is now eight wins in 11 starts.

Run to Victory, with Oliver Castillo aboard, was second and American Freedom, with Jeremy Rose astride, was third.
