Storm Cat, the leader at the Keeneland September yearling sale, will again stand for $500,000 live foal, according to Overbrook Farm official Ric Waldman, who was "very pleased" over the stallion's $1,716,667 average for a dozen yearlings the first two days. "It was an easy choice," Waldman said about keeping the 21-year-old son of Storm Bird at the same fee that he had commanded since 2002 at the Young family's Lexington nursery.

Adding to Storm Cat's stature was the popularity of yearlings by three of his sons the first two days. Forestry  's average of $537,500 for 12 yearlings was good enough for eighth-place. Tale of the Cat averaged $455,000 with his five yearlings, and Giant's Causeway averaged $441,129 with his 31.

Storm Cat, who was produced from the Secretariat mare Terlingua, twice topped the leading sires list by progeny earnings. He ranks 10th this year and is third on the sires of 2-year-olds list.
