Jockey Eddie Martin Jr. is expected to miss four to six weeks of action after he suffered a broken collarbone in a spill Saturday in Arlington Park's Paradise Creek Stakes.
Martin was injured when his mount Sure Prize, owned by Keith N. Myers, clipped heels with Arthur B. Hancock III & Runnymede Farm's Knox, causing Martin to lose an iron and fall to the ground on the first turn.
Martin was taken to Northwest Community Hospital where the injury was diagnosed Saturday evening. The 41-year-old native of Kenner, La., was ninth in the Arlington standings through Saturday despite arriving well into the current season that closes Sept. 19.
