Woodman Mare Tops Keeneland's Midpoint Session

Queen of Norway, a 5-year-old chestnut mare by Woodman out of Qena, by The Minstrel, was purchased by agent John Warren for $400,000 as the top price during Wednesday's session of Keeneland's January Horses of All Ages Sale.

Voute Sales LLC sold Queen of Norway, the Drumtop Handicap winner who was offered as a racing or broodmare prospect.

James T. Scatuorchio of Rumson, N.J., who raced More Than Ready, paid the second highest price of the day--$360,000 -- for a 6-year-old broodmare who is pregnant to Southern Halo. Taylor Made Sales Agency, as agent, sold Hana Haru, who is by Storm Cat out of Over Your Shoulder.

Keeneland sold 204 horses during Wednesday's session for $5,602,700. The average was $27,464 and the median was $15,000. The buyback rate was 27.6% as 78 of the 282 horses through the ring did not attain their reserve prices. At the halfway point of the six-day auction, 628 horses have been sold for $33,034,200, an average of $52,602.

The sale continues through Saturday, with sessions at 10:00 a.m. daily.
