A Skywalker colt sold for Can$265,000 (approximately $204,114 in U.S. funds) Tuesday to top the Canadian-bred select yearling auction at Woodbine. The Ontario division of the Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society conducted the sale, which suffered a downturn in its average price.
Canada-based trainer Roger Attfield purchased the expensive colt, which is the first foal out of the 7-year-old stakes-winning Bold Ruckus mare Love a Ruckus. Susan Y. Foreman of Kings Brook Farms consigned the bay yearling as agent.
In all, 171 horses were sold for a gross of Can$6,354,700 ($4,894,644) and an average of Can$37,162 ($28,624). Compared to a year ago, when 152 yearlings were sold, the gross was down less than one percent, but the average declined 11.9%.
