Favored Im a Dixie Girl took over in the stretch but was all out to hold off Runway Model for a neck victory in the $100,000 Bassinet for 2-year-old fillies at River Downs Saturday.
Trainer Bernie Flint, who also conditioned the runner-up, nearly had the trifecta. His Angel Trumpet, who led to the top of the stretch, finished fourth, 1 1/2 lengths behind Gallant Secret. The final time for the six furlongs was 1:10 3/5.
It was Flint's record fourth win in the Bassinet.
Im a Dixie Girl was close to the early pace in third as Angel Trumpet went :22 1/5 and :45. After opening a daylight lead in the lane, she was under pressure from jockey Willie Martinez to hold off Runway Model.
She paid $6.80, $3.60 and $2.80. Runway Model returned $4.60 and $3.20. Gallant Secret's show was $3.
Im a Dixie Girl has three wins in five starts for owner William A. Carl and has earned $120,600.
