Daughter of Monarchos Tops Final OBS Session

A $90,000 daughter of Kentucky Derby (gr. I) winner
Monarchos topped the third and final session of the Ocala Breeders Sales Company's August yearling sale. The filly was purchased by M.S.T.S. out of the Summerfield consignment of Francis and Barbara Vanlangendonck.
The filly is the first foal out of her dam Shop Here (by Dehere) and is from the family of stakes winners Bought in Dixie, Discipline, Full of Hope, Disciplinarian, In Hot Pursuit, and Lay Down. Hobeau Farm bred the filly in Florida.
A colt by
Trippi led all the males by bringing a final bid of $85,000 from Tony Bowling and Bobby Dodd. The colt was produced from the Image of Greatness mare Tarpon Princess was consigned to the sale by Red Sunset Farm.
Thursday's final session saw 240 head sell for a gross of $2,914,100 and an average price of $12,142. Last year 237 head sold for a gross of $2,193,400 and an average of $9,255.
In total, the three-day open session saw 714 horses sold for a gross of $9,109,900. The average price was $12,758. In 2003, 681 horses were sold for a gross of $6,493,200 and an average of $9,535.
