Favorite Trick Gets First SW Down Under

, the 1997 Horse of the Year as a 2-year-old, recorded his first Australian stakes winner when the 3-year-old gelding Rutherford Eagle won the Moneywise 3-year-old Classic at Gosford by seven lengths in wire-to-wire fashion on Aug. 19.
The Moneywise, run at a mile, was worth A$100,000 (U.S.$72,000).
Out of the Last Tycoon mare Vestey, Rutherford Eagle was ridden by Rodney Quinn for local trainer Albert Stapleford. In his was was Port Headland (Woodman--Patou), and the previously unbeaten Roadagain (Catbird--Summereto).
Rutherford Eagle (a A$55,000 U.S.$38,000) purchase at the 2003 Inglis Easter yearling sale) now has one win from five starts. He is the first foal of the grade III-winning Vestey. Favorite Trick
shuttled to Victoria's Collingrove Stud for three seasons. In north America, Favorite Trick
stands at John T.L. Jones Jr.'s Walmac International in near Lexington where his 2004 stud fee was $7,500.
Unbeaten in eight starts as a 2-year-old, Favorite Trick, a son of Phone Trick
out of the Medieval Man mare Evil Elaine, won 12 of 16 career starts and earned $1,726,793.
