Melbourne Cup Sees Record Number of International Entries

The 2004 Emirates Melbourne Cup (Aust-I) has attracted 295 entries with a record 55 international nominations. That number of international entries tops the 54 international horses that were nominated four years ago.
Trainer Mike Moroney who trained the 2000 Cup winner Brew has nominated the most horses of any trainer with 23. Gai Waterhouse has nominated 15 and Bart Cummings has 13.
Godolphin nominated nine horses while two-time winner Dermot Weld has six nominations.
Champion Irish trainer Aidan O'Brien has entered Brian Boru, Excalibur, Powerscourt, and Solskjaer. This marks be the first time O'Brien has sent horses to race in Australia.
