There was a case of mistaken identity at Ellis Park on Aug. 11 when maiden Boggy Creek ran in place of maiden Parker Valley in a 5 1/2-furlong maiden turf race. Boggy Creek finished fifth.
Steward Mickey Sample said it was a simple case of negligence. "We've investigated it and found it was negligence," he said. "Hearing notices will be going out and penalties will be assessed. It is the trainer's responsibility to lead the correct horse over for the race. The stewards didn't properly check the foal papers to the tattoos."
Both Boggy Creek and Parker Valley are owned by John Parker and trained by Kenny McPeek.
Parker Valley made his first start with trainer Tom Amoss and Wednesday's race was the first career start for Boggy Creek.
