Gone West's Fee Goes to $150,000

Gone West, who stood the past six seasons at $125,000, will stand in 2005 for $150,000. The 20-year-old son of Mr. Prospector stands at Mill Ridge Farm near Lexington.

"For several years, we have withstood the pressure to boost Gone West's fee," said Alice Chandler, who owns the farm with her husband, Dr. John Chandler. "This year in particular, with his incredible success worldwide as a sire of sires, the time has come when we felt we had to raise his fee."

Gone West's success as a sire of sires has never been more evident than this year. His son, Elusive Quality  , sire of dual classic winner Smarty Jones, heads this year's leading sire list by progeny earnings, and another son, Grand Slam, ranks fifth.

Gone West, who was produced from the Secretariat mare Secrettame, has sired 76 stakes. From 1994 through last year, his progeny had yearly earnings of at least $3.1 million and are headed for that mark this year.
