Blood-Horse Publications Launches Initiative to Educate Legislators about Thoroughbred Industry
Blood-Horse Publications is providing each member of the Kentucky Senate and House of Representatives with an annual subscription to The Blood-Horse, the company's flagship publication and the oldest continually published North American Thoroughbred magazine. In addition to the 137 members of the Kentucky legislature who will receive a subscription, executive members of the recently-created Kentucky Horse Racing Authority will also receive a complimentary copy of The Blood-Horse each week. The subscription campaign was inspired by the formation of the Kentucky Equine Education Project (KEEP), a new alliance formed to educate Kentucky residents and legislators on the importance of the horse industry to the economy of the Commonwealth. "The future of the commercial horse business in Kentucky is not a God-given right," commented Stacy V. Bearse, president and CEO of Blood-Horse Publications. "I recently visited Belle Meade Plantation in Nashville. In 1904, Belle Meade was the oldest and largest Thoroughbred farm in the nation. However legislative actions changed the climate for breeding and racing in Tennessee, forcing the industry to migrate north. Today, Tennessee is left without a single major Thoroughbred stud farm. The Belle Meade example is a reminder that we must be proactive to ensure that commercial horse breeding has a bright future in the Commonwealth." The Blood-Horse--published by the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association (TOBA)--is a weekly magazine for professionals engaged in Thoroughbred breeding and racing. Coverage focuses on the horses, people, events, trends, and issues affecting the industry. In addition to publishing The Blood-Horse print edition, Blood-Horse Publications also publishes The Blood-Horse Electronic Edition, The Horse: Your Guide To Equine Health Care, a monthly equine health care magazine, also available in an electronic edition; TBH MarketWatch, a newsletter for Thoroughbred investors; the official Kentucky Derby and Breeders' Cup souvenir magazines; Auction Edge; and Keeneland magazine. In addition, Blood-Horse Publications also publishes equine-related books and videos under the Eclipse Press banner, and operates a family of leading Web sites including bloodhorse.com, TheHorse.com, StallionRegister.com, and ExclusivelyEquine.com, the official store of Blood-Horse Publications.
