Edited from Del Mar Stable NotesSouvenir Gift, who brought longtime trainer Sam Semkin his first graded-stakes victory, is heading up a potential field of at least seven for Saturday's 36th edition of the $150,000 Sorrento Stakes (gr. III) for 2-year-old fillies. The race will be run at 6 1/2 furlongs on the main track.
Souvenir Gift, who is trained by Semkin at San Luis Rey Downs, broke her maiden in a quarter-mile dash at Santa Anita in April, then graduated to Hollywood Park's Cinderella Stakes and stamped herself as a solid stakes prospect by winning the Landaluce Stakes (grade III), also at Hollywood on July 5. Mike Smith has been aboard for her most recent two victories and retains the mount for the Sorrento.
The filly finished her serious work toward Saturday's date with a :45 4/5-second half-mile work at San Luis Rey Downs Sunday.
