(from Saratoga track notes)Jockey Mike Luzzi was resting comfortably at Albany Medical Center Thursday morning, after undergoing surgery Wednesday night for a broken right femur.
Luzzi broke his leg in yesterday's opening day first race when he was thrown from his mount, Honey Fritters, after she bolted on the first turn.
According to Tania Luzzi, Dr. Richard Alfred inserted a rod and two screws into her husband's broken leg.
"We're not sure how long he will be out of action," she said. "He already started his physical therapy this morning and now he's resting."
Tania Luzzi said that her husband would likely be released Friday or Saturday.
"We're still going to stay in Saratoga for the meet," she said. "It will be hard to keep him away from the racetrack."
