Grade II winner Mula Gula has been retired from racing and will enter stud for $2,000 live foal at Ron and Nina Hagen's El Dorado Farms near Enumclaw, Wash. The son of Kentucky Derby (gr. I) winner Lil E. Tee suffered a minor suspensory injury while being prepared for the Jan. 1 San Gabriel Handicap (gr. II).

Campaigned by Steven Gula, Mula Gula won four stakes, including the Oak Tree Derby (gr. IIT) and the Bay Meadows Breeders' Cup Derby (gr. IIIT) at about 1 1/8 miles in course-record time of 1:45.34. His five stakes-placings included efforts in the Arlington Million (gr. IT) and the Washington Park (gr. II) and Winnercomm (gr. II) Handicaps. Mula Gula, who was produced from the Ascot Knight mare Night Tan, is scheduled to cover a normal book of mares and might be returned to training following the breeding season.
