The son of prominent bloodstock agent Mark Reid Sr. died early Sunday in a swimming pool accident at a friend's house near his residence in Burlington County, New Jersey.
David Reid, a junior offensive lineman on the Villanova University football team and a native of Medford, N.J., was 20.
"This is a very sad day for the Villanova football family. David was a great kid who was a friend to everybody associated with the program," said Villanova head coach Andy Talley. "He was a hard worker who was making an outstanding contribution to our program. We will miss him greatly. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends."
Reid, who enrolled at Villanova in 2001 and spent that season as a redshirt, was projected at No. 2 on the depth chart at guard heading into the start of practice for the 2004 campaign.
Additional survivors are his mother, Barbara Reid, and two brothers, Mark Jr. and Sean. Funeral arrangements are pending.
