Rainbow Quest Mare Tops First Session of Tattersalls Sale

The Tattersalls July sale got off to a strong start Tuesday as the Newmarket, England auction firm reported solid gains in every major statistical category.
Echoes, a 3-year-old daughter of Rainbow Quest, was purchased by Newmarket-based agent John Troy for 130,000 guineas, a record price for a mare sold during the summer sale.
A daughter of group I winner Exclusive, Echoes was sold as part of the Cheveley Park Stud consignment. The mare was offered in foal to Cheveley Parkês first-year stallion Where or When.
Tattersalls reported the session gross rose 106% to 2,477,300 guineas, with 154 lots selling for a record session average of 16,086 guineas and a record median of 8,750 guineas. The figures represented rises of 43% and 46% over the corresponding session one year ago.
The sessionês second-highest price of 105,000 guineas was paid by agent Gill Richardson for the recent winner Karelian, offered by Andre Farbreês stable. Karelian was purchased by Richardson as a National Hunt prospect.
The draft from Sheikh Mohammed's Darley sold 22 lots for a total of 533,500 guineas. Two fillies shared top billing with the first being Little Dorrit, a 3-year-old filly by Sadlerês Wells out of the group-winning Darshaan mare Zafadola. Irish agent John O'Byrne emerged triumphant with a bid of 77,000 guineas. The second Darley filly to reach 77,000 guineas was the 3-year-old
Deputy Minister filly Rosemark, a daughter of the group I Prix St-Alary winner Rosefinch, herself a daughter of the champion 3-year-old filly Oh So Sharo. The half sister to listed winner Roscius was purchaed by the BBA Ireland's Adrian Nicoll.
