Robert B. LaPenta's The Cliff's Edge, winner of the Toyota Blue Grass Stakes (gr. I) before finishing fifth in the Kentucky Derby (gr. I), is scheduled to return to competition Saturday in the Dwyer Stakes (gr. II) at Belmont Park. The $150,000 race will be run at 1 1/16 miles.

The race, which will be renewed for the 8th time, was originally known as the Brooklyn Derby and was re-named in 1918 in honor of Phil and Michael Dwyer, two brothers who were at the forefront of American and New York racing in the early 20th century.

Trainer Nick Zito, who will be seeking his third Dwyer victory with The Cliff's Edge, may also go with Tracy Farmer's Sir Shackleton in the Dwyer. Sir Shackleton had won three of four career starts, including the Derby Trial (gr. III) at Churchill Downs, before finishing sixth in the Preakness Stakes (gr. I).

Medallist, upset winner of the Withers Stakes (gr. III) for trainer Allen Jerkens, is also likely for the Dwyer, as are Preachinatthebar and Shaniko. Questionable Dwyer entrants are Ecclesiastic, Golden Look, Jane's Luck and Joe's Six Pack.
