(from Colonial Downs report)Jockeys Ryan Fogelsonger and Joe Rocco, Jr. were taken to the Medical College of Virginia Friday night with unspecified injuries after a two-horse spill in the seventh race at Colonial Downs. The extent of their injuries was unknown, but both riders were alert and stabilized as they left the track.
The incident occurred in upper stretch as Fogelsonger's mount Come to Cashel broke down, pitching Fogelsonger forward. Ace's Valentine and Rocco were racing immediately behind Come to Cashel and could not avoid the fallen horse. Ace's Valentine somersaulted over Come to Cashel, hitting the fallen Fogelsonger.
Ace's Valentine escaped with only minor cuts. Come to Cashel had to be euthanized.
The other seven horses were able to avoid the spill. Spring Season, coupled with Come to Cashel in an Augustin Stable entry, went on to win by five lengths over a late closing Mittens. Spring Season returned $4.20.
