Ballingarry Eyes Repeat in Stars and Stripes
Ballingarry, a 5-year-old horse who has earned more than $1.5 million in his career, returns to Arlington Park July 4 to defend his title in the $200,000 Stars and Stripes Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. III) at 1 1/2 miles on the turf.Ballingarry, owned by the Port Trust, Marsha Naify, and San Gabriel Investments, is scheduled to face eight foes in the Stars and Stripes, which he won last year. The son of Sadler's Wells arrived at Arlington June 29, trained July 1, and was scheduled to school later in the day for trainer Laura de Seroux.Ballingarry, bred in Ireland, won the 2001 Criterium de Saint Cloud (Fr-I) as a 2-year-old, and in 2002 won the Prix Noailles (Fr-II) and Canadian International (Can-I). His 2003 season was highlighted by the Stars and Stripes victory.Ballingarry is the 120-pound highweight for the July 4 feature.
