Low weights will be the order of the day when five 3-year-old males try the six furlongs of the June 26 Jersey Shore Breeders' Cup Stakes (gr. III) at Monmouth Park in an attempt to win their first stakes. Gotaghostofachance, the high weight under 115 pounds, will be going for his fourth consecutive win of the year in his first added-money go. Smarty Jones' jockey, Stewart Elliott, is the rider.
The remaining four--Pomeroy, Value Plus, Midnight Express, and Dandoon--will carry 113 pounds. Pomeroy, who finished first in the Kentucky Cup Juvenile (gr. III) only to be disqualified and placed third, won by 11 1/2 lengths at Monmouth last year and ran fourth in the Coolmore Lexington Stakes (gr. II) in his last start. Value Plus, a close second in the Florida Derby (gr. I) in March, goes into the Jersey Shore off an unplaced finish in the Riva Ridge Stakes (gr. II). Midnight Express has been out six times at Monmouth and boasts one win. Dandoon goes into the race off a maiden win May 30 at the track.
The Jersey Shore Breeders' Cup is the ninth race and scheduled for 4:47
