Breeders' Cup Classic (gr. I) and Super Derby (gr. I) winner Tiznow worked seven furlongs in 1:24 2/5, handily, under regular rider Chris McCarron Friday at Santa Anita.
"He worked very, very well," said McCarron. "He was a different horse today. He finished strong last week but he didn't have the gusto in the stretch. Today he did. He finished very well and galloped out strong, like his usual self. He's very hard to pull up after his works - last week he wasn't. Today, he was right back on it."
Tiznow is being prepared for a possible start in the San Fernando Breeders' Cup Stakes (gr. II) on Jan. 13 at Santa Anita. His Friday work was the fastest of three at the distance on the fast main track.
McCarron continued to say: "Every top horse I've ever ridden seems to enjoy going to the racetrack. They're in the stall 23 hours a day, and when they enjoy their job, they appreciate the opportunity to stand on the track and take it all in. Tiznow is certainly in that mode. John Henry used to take 30 minutes to get to the track. He would just stand there. When he first started doing that, people would say, 'He's sour, he doesn't want to go.' Sometimes that's the case, but with the good, intelligent horses they just enjoy being out there."
Tiznow had been bothered by his left front foot, but trainer Jay Robbins deemed the foot "perfect" Thursday.
Tiznow went to the track for an easy gallop Monday morning. Tiznow popped a quarter crack earlier this week which was patched Saturday afternoon. "We have to see how it takes," said Robbins. "He seemed to be hitting the ground all right this morning."
