Hallowed Dreams won her second consecutive race after having her record-tying 16-race win streak snapped this summer, holding on for a neck victory in a tough allowance race Friday at Fair Grounds. In the feature race, Song for Annie led all the way to win the $75,000 Furl Sail Handicap by 4 1/2 lengths.
After breaking from post 11, Hallowed Dreams was a half-length behind pacesetter My Alibi after an opening quarter-mile run in :21.59. The Louisiana-bred moved to within a head of the leader after a half in :44.82 and led by 1 1/2 lengths over My Brent's Diamond with a furlong to run. Hallowed Dreams completed the six furlongs in 1:10.48 on a fast track. Fiesty Countess was second, 2 1/2 lengths clear of My Brent's Diamond. My Alibi came home fourth, followed by Dif a Dot, Brittsker, Steal a Heart, Sutter Sutter, Taft Lil Queen, Too Many, and Wig.
Hallowed Dreams paid $5.80, $4.40, and $4.20 as the 19-10 favorite. 17-1 longshot Fiesty Countess closed well to complete the $108.40 exacta.
In the feature race, Song for Annie set comfortable fractions of :24.37, :48.67, and 1:14.17 while never seriously challenged, completing the one-mile turf race in 1:38.76 on good turf. Larry Melancon was aboard for the victory, Song for Annie's fifth in 16 starts. Euryanthe closed from last to finish second, a neck in front of Soccory. Watch came home fourth, followed by favorite Always Sure, La Serina, Dorothy Ann, Sarah Lane's Oates, Stirling Bridge, Gayle's Approval, Red Yellow Blue, and Jamie's Coco Pop.
