Win No. 2,500 for Canadian Rider David Clark Hours after hearing that his hot Labatt Woodbine Oaks prospect, Nashinda, would not be entered in Sunday's key 3-year-old filly race, jockey David Clark made up for some of the disappointment by winning his 2,500th career race Friday at Woodbine.Clark guided Devils Right Hand to a 2 3/4-length win for trainer Nick Gonzalez, and owner M.A.D. Racing Stables and Martha Gonzalez, in the day's first race to get number 2,500.The 50-year-old, who won two Queen's Plates in his career aboard Fiddle Dancer Boy in 1981 and La Lorgnette in 1985, followed that with number 2,501 in the day's third aboard Proximos."It's a nice thing to achieve," said Clark, who also earned a Sovereign Award as Canada's top jockey in 1998 and an Avelino Gomez Memorial Award nod in 1999. "Once you're done, you'll look back and say, 'That wasn't too bad.' (Being a jockey) is not a bad job at all."Devils Right Hand paid $4.00 to win.Clark started 2004 with 2,473 lifetime wins and now has 28 at the current Woodbine meet.Nashinda expected to vie for favoritism in the Oaks but suffered a foot injury Thursday and will not compete in the 1 1/8-mile event, which drew five horses on Friday. |
