The Breeders' Cup board of directors June 11 approved agreement in principal with the Thoroughbred Championship Tour based upon the joint proposals of Breeders' Cup and TCT subcommittees, which met in New York the week of May 31.

Breeders' Cup will contribute purse money in support of the TCT concept of a high-quality series of stakes conducted on big-event days between the Triple Crown and World Thoroughbred Championships. The TCT is a product of the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association, which in a business plan proposed a for-profit operation in which racehorse owners would have equity.

The Breeders' Cup board charged management to move forward and work in cooperation with the National Thoroughbred Racing Association and the TCT in developing a deal that would support the TCT and link it with the World Thoroughbred Championships. The contract will then be submitted to the NTRA board of directors for its approval at a meeting in mid-July.
