Japanese-bred Tsurumaru Boy, ending an 11-race losing streak, won the $1.6 million Yasuda Kinen at Tokyo Racecourse Sunday, as multiple grade I winner Island Fashion faded to finish 16th.
Tsurumaru Boy edged Telegnosis by a neck in a time of 1:32.60 for the 1,600-meter grass course.
Takao Tsuruta owns the 6-year-old son of Dance in the Dark. Hamamoto bred him. He is out of Tsurumaru Girl, by Soccer Boy. Tsurumaru Boy won for the seventh time in 29 starts.
The 4-year-old filly Island Fashion, who has now lost three races in a row after ripping off back-to-back grade I victories to begin the year, faced males for the second time in the Yasuda Kinen. She was second to Southern Image in the Santa Anita Handicap (gr. I) in March.
