Some fans enjoy local delicacies as bettors make Smarty Jones the overwhelming favorite to complete the Triple Crown sweep.
The early money wagered on the Belmont Stakes (gr. I) has made Smarty Jones an overwhelming 1-5 choice over his eight rivals as he attempts to become racing's first Triple Crown winner since Affirmed in 1978.
A large amount of the money bet on the Kentucky Derby (gr. I) and Preakness (gr. I) winner is likely from souvenir seekers plunking down their hard-earned cash for $2 keepsake tickets on the popular Smarty Jones as he makes his bid for the Triple Crown at 6:38 p.m.
As the Smarty Jones merchandise on sale at kiosks around Belmont Park quickly evaporates, $2-win tickets may be one of the few souvenirs available on "America's Horse." They're also the cheapest.
As of 4 p.m. on Belmont afternoon, the early-wagering odds are:
1, Master David, 26-1
2, Purge, 18-1
3, Caiman, 55-1
4, Birdstone, 39-1
5, Rock Hard Ten, 9-1
6, Royal Assault, 29-1
7, Tap Dancer, 4-1
8, Eddington, 16-1
9, Smarty Jones, 1-5
