Fairmount Park has cancelled the final four cards of its 2000 meet due to unsafe track conditions. The Collinsville, Ill., track decided Tuesday to cancel that night's card and the decision to cancel the final three nights of racing was made Wednesday, according to Joe Ruppert, the track's vice president. Racing at the track will resume on Feb. 6, 2001.

Ruppert said that icy sand under a layer of clay prevents training and racing, prompting the decision to cancel the final cards of the meet.

Previously this month, the track cancelled one card due to a frozen track and races six through 12 of another due to unsafe track conditions.
