Gonetorule blew by pacesetter A B Noodle in midstretch and went on to post a four-length victory in the $58,175 Santa Clara Handicap at Bay Meadows Saturday.
Gonetorule is owned and trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, who is on a tremendous roll. Last Sunday, Hollendorfer won four races, and on Wednesday he equaled the Northern California record for most wins by a trainer on a single card when he won five races.
"We're having a lot of fun right now," said Hollendorfer, who, with more than 4,000 career victories, ranks as Northern California's all-time leading trainer and the sixth-leading trainer in Thoroughbred racing history.
Gonetorule, a 4-year-old filly bred in Florida, earned her first stakes victory and her fourth win in seventh career starts. She took the one-mile Santa Clara in 1:34.94 under jockey Russell Baze and paid $4.80 after being made a 7-5 favorite by the bettors.
A B Noodle, who set the pace under pressure from another Hollendorfer runner, Hippogator, hung on to take second by two lengths over Bartok's Blithe. A B Noodle had captured the Yerba Bunea Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. IIIT) on the turf in her previous start.
