Spain, shown in her upset Breeders' Cup Distaff victory, faces Chilukki in Saturday's La Brea Stakes.
Breeders' Cup Distaff champion Spain, trained by D. Wayne Lukas, will be the starting highweight at 123 pounds for Saturday's grade I La Brea Stakes at seven furlongs. Joining Spain in the starting gate will be the Bob Baffert-trained Chilukki, 1999 Juvenile champion filly and the undefeated Serenita, conditioned by Bobby Frankel.
Trainer Vladimir Cerin will take a shot with Penny Blues. "I ran her once at Oak Tree and she ripped a shoe off," said Cerin. "It wasn't a very good experience for her but she's good now."
The lineup for Saturday's $200,000 La Brea Stakes, in post position order, with jockeys: Spain, Victor Espinoza, 123; Chilukki, Gary Stevens, 121; Serenita, Corey Nakatani, 115; Cover Gal, Laffit Pincay Jr., 119; Penny Blues, Eddie Delahoussaye, 119, and Queenie Belle, Brice Blanc, 119.
