Dublino Retired With Suspensory Injury

Dublino, one of the leading female turf horses in the nation the past two years, has been retired because of a suspensory injury, trainer Laura de Seroux announced Thursday from her base at San Luis Rey Downs.

"I noticed some inflammation, and the SCAN results confirmed my suspicions," said de Seroux. "The injury is minor but real."

De Seroux said retirement plans had not been completed but that Dublino could be sold at the November Keeneland Sale as a broodmare prospect.

Dublino finished third in the Wilshire Handicap (gr. IIIT) at Hollywood Park on April 25 in her last start, which she was using as a prep for the $350,000-added Gamely Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. IT) on May 31. She finished second in the Gamely last year.

Dublino, a 5-year-old daughter of Lear Fan, recorded three firsts and six seconds in 12 starts and earned nearly $600,000 for a partnership headed by Michael Klein. She made her first start in France as a 3-year-old before joining the de Seroux stable.

In her United States debut, Dublino finished first in the inaugural American Oaks but was disqualified and placed second for interference in the stretch with Megahertz. Dublino returned to win the Del Mar Oaks (gr. IT) by a nose over Megahertz.
