Texas Glitter won an early speed duel with Bay Runner then held off Full Moon Madness by a head Friday in the $75,750 Dayjur Handicap at Hollywood Park. Carrying 120 pounds and ridden by Aaron Gryder, Texas Glitter was clocked in a stakes-record 1:01.24 for 5 1/2-furlongs on firm turf. That was three-fifths of a second faster than the record set last year by Accomplice.
Texas Glitter paid $5.40, $3 and $2.20 for his fourth victory in five starts and seventh in 19 lifetime races. A 4-year-old son of Glitterman, Texas Glitter was flown to California from the East Coast last month to compete in the Hollywood Turf Express, losing by a neck to El Cielo. That remains Texas Glitter's only loss in five starts on the grass. Texas Glitter is trained by Henry Moreno and earned $45,650 for owners Dennis B. Swartz and Michael J. Ryan.
Full Moon Madness, ridden by Gary Stevens, returned $2.60 and $2.10. Echo Eddie paid $2.20 to show. Rampaging Alf finished fourth, followed by Mr. Lightfoot, Rudi's Pet, and Bay Runner. (Chart,
