If Smarty Jones is victorious in the Belmont Stakes (gr. I), say goodbye to Street Road, the major thoroughfare where Philadelphia Park is located, and say hello to Smarty Jones Boulevard.

That's right, Smarty, who will be immortalized in many ways with a Triple Crown sweep, will gain geographic immortality with his own street named after him.

"Street Road is a state highway, but each municipality can petition to have a road changed within the municipality, which we have already started doing," said Dawn Davis, public relations coordinator for the town of Bensalem, the home of Philly Park.

"We do have several signs that we unveiled (Wednesday), and hopefully, if he wins the Triple Crown, that's when we'll start to institute the signage throughout our stretch of Street Road in Bensalem," Davis said.

"We love our neighbor, Philadelphia, and they seem to be capitalizing on the success of Smarty Jones, who really is a Bucks County horse. The owners live in Solebury, the jockey lives in Washington Crossing, and the trainer, John Servis, lives right here in Bensalem. So, we just want some identity. We want to share in the glory. And we think this is one of the best ways we can do it from identity purposes, as well as just share the good fortune. This is something that is within our control, so we figured, 'Hey, what better way, we'll rename it Smarty Jones Boulevard.'

"And what's funny, if you're not from this neck of the woods, and you tell tell somebody Street Road, they're like, 'What? Is it a street or is it a road?' So, we figured it would have national attention if we renamed it Smarty Jones Boulevard. Our Mayor (Joseph DiGirolomo) is a pretty progressive kind of guy, and he actually came up with the idea."
